Jasmine Silver Tips by Cultivate Tea, Vancouver

Tea has long held the remarkable ability to absorb and preserve the fleeting scent of flowers. The craft of scenting tea began over a thousand years ago, during the Southern Song Dynasty, and requires deep knowledge of timing, proportion, and patience. Flower and tea meet through multiple infusions—each one transferring a little more of the blossom’s soul.

For this Jasmine Silver Tips, green tea buds were picked and processed in April, then stored until jasmine season in late July. Over two weeks, the tea underwent six rounds of traditional scenting: fresh jasmine blossoms were layered with the tea on bamboo mats each night, allowing the leaves to absorb their delicate nocturnal perfume. Each morning, the flowers were removed, and the tea was baked gently over charcoal to set the aroma.

This year’s harvest from cultivate is visually striking—buds glint like white gold. A summer drought yielded fewer jasmine blossoms, resulting in a more intense and focused fragrance. When brewed, the tea leaves unfurl like pale driftwood in water, releasing a rich, velvety liquor with the fullness of jasmine and a soft, milky sweetness. No bitterness, only a gentle and lasting depth. A beautiful example of strength through subtlety.
