Heather Peat is the driving force behind chimie, an emergent sensory project that explores scent as a medium for connection, curiosity, and creative expression. Having previously studied and worked within the business realm of fashion, she later pursued the foundations of perfumery at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery in 2021, in a course that spanned fragrance creation, chemistry, vocabulary, genealogy and olfactory theory.
Her time in Grasse was both formative and revelatory, highlighting the layers of inaccessibility within the world of olfaction. Confronted with how insular the fragrance industry can be, Peat envisions a more open, connected landscape between scent makers and the scent-curious. chimie becomes the vehicle in which she facilitates discovery by cultivating communities across cities and cultures where people are invited to slow down, tune in, and discover new dimensions of self through scent.
