Gold Osmanthus by Cultivate Tea, Vancouver
15g
These Gold Osmanthus flowers come from Fanting Village, a small mountain village in Anxi, Fujian, China where nearly every household tends to a century-old osmanthus tree. Each year in October, as the trees bloom for just two short weeks, the entire village shifts into harvest mode. Early each morning, large cloths are spread beneath the trees, and villagers climb up with long bamboo poles to gently tap the branches. A soft rain of golden flowers falls, filling the air with their unmistakable, heady scent.
The blossoms are gathered by hand, then sorted in groups to remove leaves and twigs before passing through a sieve for final cleaning. Finally, the fresh flowers are freeze-dried at -30°C the same day, preserving their intense aroma and vibrant color.
This year’s harvest is especially potent. The pigment of the flowers is richer, and the liquor they brew is a deep, luminous yellow. The taste is intensely fruity—less sweet than previous years, but with a lush, tropical body that reminds Cultivate of mango juice. Thick, bright, and nourishing, this Gold Osmanthus feels like sunlight steeped in tea.
